"We'll just have soda" isn't a plan
Almost every wedding guest list includes people who aren't drinking that night — pregnant guests, guests in recovery, designated drivers, guests who simply don't drink alcohol, and often a fair number of teenagers at family weddings. Too often, the plan for all of them is an afterthought bin of canned soda near the ice.
It doesn't take much more effort to build a real mocktail menu — usually two or three options that get the same care as the alcoholic drinks, made with the same fresh juices, syrups, and garnishes behind the same bar.
Building a mocktail menu that doesn't feel like a consolation prize
The easiest approach is to design your mocktails alongside your signature cocktails, using the same base ingredients minus the spirit — a shrub-and-soda version of your citrus cocktail, or a non-alcoholic take on your signature drink built with the same syrup and garnish. That way a non-drinking guest gets something that visually and flavor-wise fits the rest of the bar, not a separate, lesser menu.
Fresh ginger, muddled fruit, good bitters (most cocktail bitters contain trace alcohol from the extraction process but are used in drops, not ounces — flag this if a guest needs a fully alcohol-free option), and a proper glass and garnish go a long way toward making a mocktail feel intentional rather than an also-ran.
Fully dry bars and hybrid setups
Some couples choose a fully dry reception, which is entirely workable — you get the same full-service bar experience, cocktail-style presentation, and TIPS-certified staff, just without alcohol on the menu. We build these the same way we'd build any bar package: full setup, signature drinks, a real menu, just alcohol-free.
A hybrid approach — a hosted beer-and-wine bar with a full mocktail menu alongside it, and hard liquor available on request — is also common for Denver-metro weddings with a wide range of ages and preferences on the guest list.
Ask your bar service how they handle it
When you're comparing bar services, it's worth directly asking how they handle non-drinking guests — do they have a real mocktail program, or just soda and juice? The answer tells you a lot about how much thought a company puts into serving your whole guest list, not just the people ordering whiskey.
